Candis faced a series of difficult challenges early in life, including the profound loss of her father, a painful divorce, and a miscarriage—all before turning 21. These personal tragedies coupled with further family losses and difficult relationships, led Candis down a tumultuous path marked by addiction. Initially starting with alcohol and misusing prescription medication, her substance use rapidly escalated to intravenous heroin and methamphetamine, resulting in the loss of custody of her children, homelessness, and ultimately incarceration.

Prison became a turning point for Candis, offering a crucial opportunity for self-reflection and change. Embracing the possibility of recovery, Candis dedicated herself to transformation and has since achieved years of sustained sobriety. Now working as a peer recovery coach and pursuing certification, Candis uses her experiences to support others on their recovery journeys. Her journey of overcoming adversity is a powerful testament to resilience, allowing her to live a life free of from the fear of losing everything and providing focused on guiding others towards hope and healing.
