Mackenzie has been deeply connected to recovery throughout her life. When she was just 5 years old, her mother, Racquel Garcia, found recovery and started a nonprofit with Mackenzie when she was 9, embedding the value of service in her from an early age. Mackenzie spent her formative years witnessing two vastly different paths: her mother choosing to heal, impact others, and nurture their family, while her father remained in his addiction until she was 15. This contrast shaped her understanding of the power of recovery. Today, both her parents are in recovery, a journey that has profoundly influenced Mackenzie’s life and fueled her passion for supporting others on similar paths.
Though substance use is not her personal story, Mackenzie has firsthand experience with its effects on families and youth. She has faced her own mental health challenges during high school, providing her with a unique empathy for those navigating similar struggles. For years, she worked behind the scenes at HardBeauty, and continues to serve as a youth advisor and events coordinator, helping to cultivate community and show Colorado what is possible with recovery. Now, as the Executive Assistant to her mother and Founder/CIO, Racquel Garcia, Mackenzie supports the leadership team and coaches, witnessing HardBeauty’s growth into a beacon of hope. Her commitment is driven by a desire to help more youth experiencing the impact of addiction in their homes, believing in the transformative power of recovery to bring healing and hope to families.
